District Fire Chief
A Word from the Chief:
Thank you for visiting our website and your interest in the Lower Valley Fire Protection District. The LVFPD is a combination department comprised of 12 full time and 19 Reserved/ Volunteer firefighters. We employ one part-time Fire Marshal to handle the large amount of growth that our district is experiencing. We are proud to serve the public and visitors of our district as we are a full-service department handling, fire, EMS, HazMat and technical rescue. We are proactive in our stance on fire prevention and work very closely with the City of Fruita and Mesa County Planning and Building Departments.
The Lower Valley Fire District encompasses 225 square miles ranging from the city limits of Grand Junction on our east – west to the Utah border. This area covers the Colorado National Monument to the south and continuing north to Douglas Pass which is in Garfield County. We also have an annual contract with Grand County Utah to cover 25 miles into Utah to Cisco. Our District has a variety of terrain ranging from desert to heavy timber and rural residential to a small downtown commercial district.
Being predominately volunteer, our organization is very diverse and we train to meet any challenge that might arise. As with many areas of Colorado, we are experiencing rapid growth and work hard to plan and manage our growth as it affects the fire service.
